Extending across a total area of 5.32 square miles, the town of Baileyton is tucked away in northeastern Cullman County and is around a 20-minute drive to the county seat, Cullman. Alabama Highway 69 passes through the center of town, connecting it to nearby Arab and Fairview.
A quiet, rural community, it lies nestled in a beautifully lush natural setting and the real estate market here is composed of single-family homes as well as lots and land. First settled in the 1800s, the town is named after Robert Bailey, who built the first homestead here in the latter half of the century. The entrepreneurial Bailey also had a cotton gin and his home served as the venue for the town’s first Methodist church.
Baileyton today is known for being an excellent place to raise a family. It has also gained a measure of renown for its "Good Time" Drag Strip, which holds evening races
Baileyton United Methodist Church.Added to the Alabama Register of Landmarks and Heritage in 2011, the church was listed due to its “architectural significance.” According to the Alabama Historical Commission (AHC), it is “an excellent example of a 1940s church building that retains most of its historic features.”
Baileyton Cemetery.Named by the AHC to the Alabama Historic Cemetery Register in 2011, the Baileyton Cemetery helps tell the tale of the town’s past as well as the history of settlement in the region. It’s located on the corner of Cemetary Rd. and Schoolhouse Rd.
Baileyton is served by the Cullman County Schools district and is home to Parkside Elementary School. This highly regarded school has a student population of approximately 400 and serves students in kindergarten through the 8th grade. Students here consistently perform well in standards-based tests such as the Alabama Science Assessment (ASA) and Alabama Reading and Mathematics Test (ARMT).
